Hudson Village Self-Guided Walking Tours
As temperatures begin to climb and gardens wake, the great outdoors are calling, and what better way to ward off corona cabin fever than a guided stroll through Hudson’s crown jewel, its stunning village.
HHA encourages you to take us along on your next Historic Village stroll in the form of a readable mobile walking tour or follow along on an actual tour that was recorded in 2015.
Click here for the walking tour page of our website where you will find links to four specific tours, each lasting 30-40 minutes:
Tour #1: Main Street & Its Nearby Neighbors
Tour #2: East Main & Aurora Streets
Tour #3: Historic Village Neighborhood
Tour #4: Western Reserve Academy & Its Neighbors
In 2015, HHA produced a walking tour led by Christie Borkan, an authority on American and Ohio architecture who has taught and lectured at Hiram College. Click here to watch that one-hour tour with Christie and walk along with your mobile device or enjoy watching the tour from the comfort of your home.
From residential to commercial buildings, you will discover exciting varieties in architecture representative of the Western Reserve and other styles of significance on the HHA Walking Tours and the tour with Christie. Be sure to note the features and elements of each building that help make Hudson such a rich reflection of its past and its citizenry. Many of the areas and buildings on the tours are listed in the National Register of Historic Places.
The tours highlight properties with the iconic white HHA markers. Each of them have been researched and authenticated by Hudson Heritage Association and may be noteworthy for their architecture, their past ownership or for the activities that took place within them. The markers typically carry the name of the original owner of the property.
With an up-close view of the variety of architectural styles, a guided stroll through Hudson Village demonstrates that the early citizens of Hudson were determined to build a community reflecting the elegance of New England in the Ohio wilderness.
HHA is eager to hear about your experience with the HHA Walking Tours and the recorded tour with Christie Borkan. Please contact us at info@hudsonheritage.org with your feedback.
Enjoy the tours, enjoy Hudson and enjoy the fresh air. Please stay safe and healthy.
