Landfear-Welles House
The property at 5 Baldwin Street has been owned by many recognizable Hudson figures such as Harvey Whedon, Heman Oviatt and Daniel Gaylord as well as Western Reserve College at one point. A house might have existed on the property earlier than 1846 before Baldwin became a street but it is probably not the existing structure, which was likely built sometime between 1846 and 1852. There is evidence contained within the Inspection Report, included in the next section of this document, that some elements of the construction are consistent with houses built prior to the 1850s. It is possible that some of the physical elements from earlier buildings – such as foundation portions, framing, roofing and windows – still exists in the house we see today.
