Hudson Heritage Pays Tribute To Don Reisig
Hudson Heritage Association will be honoring Don Reisig at our October 2013 meeting on Thursday, October 10th. Don has restored over 100 historic structures in the Ohio Western Reserve over the past 50 years, many of which are on the National Register today.
Don received his Journeymenship Certificate in carpentry and cabinetmaking in 1956. Don’s work as a General Contractor began in the mill work division of Forest City Lumber Co. While Don’s work is generally in the Tallmadge, Akron and Hudson areas he has many projects under his tool belt through-out the region.
Don was integral, along with Hudson Heritage Association, in the relocation and restoration of three early Greek Revival houses moved to Owen Brown Street in Hudson in the 1980’s and 90’s. All 3 homes won the prestigious Architectural Heritage Award; the 1835 Chloe Wright House in 1984, the 1837 Lyman Darrow House in 1993 and the 1846 Danforth house in 1985.
Don was also the general contractor for the conversion of many buildings from barns to private homes and corporate headquarters, including the octagon barn on Darrow Road in Darrowville to the Smithers-Oasis Corporate Headquarters, the Anna Dean Farm Barn #1 on the O. C. Barber estate in Barberton into the Yoder Brothers World Headquarters and the Cable Bank Barn on Hudson-Aurora Road into a private residence.
Please join Hudson Heritage to see these historic buildings and many more as Ginger Rogers presents a retrospective of Don’s career.
The Hudson Heritage Association meeting is free and open to the public and will be held at the Barlow Community Center. The meeting begins at 7:30 p.m. and will conclude with refreshments. For more information, call 330-342-7996.
